I fancy getting some Diawa Ss2600 reels for my Nash Dwarf rods, now I know you can QD them, but I'd rather not. Question is, will they be difficult to fish with in conjunction with bite alarms without a 'baitrunner'?

Not at all, you don't need completely loose clutches to fish that way, a turn or so will bring you back into play.

No problem, just slacken off the clutch or as stated open bail arm and clipping up will do it also.
