Seen some Shakespeare Mach 1 XT rods on fleabay and they're going for about £20 (give or take). I'm looking at getting the waggler and feeder rods from this range, just wondering if anyone uses/has used either of these and if they're any good.

thanks,
cal

Not the same rod but I've had the Shakespeare 10ft bomb wand - lovely rod for small roach and I've got the Mach 3 reel so judging from these two products I'd have no worries about buying Shakespeare gear again

I did use an old Shakespeare 13' match rod for a while, it was certainly a good rod and still performed at a good standard even though it was about 5 years old! Would still be using it now but I caught it with the hedge trimmers last year and shattered the 2nd section. I will definitely buy Shakespeare again!

I couldn't tell you if they were any good or not. I have an irrational dislike of the brand that goes back to childhood. It's an affliction common to many in their late thirties/early forties.;):D

However, it may be worth looking at sportsdirect.
Shakespeare Mach 1 XT 11ft Pellet Waggler Fishing Rod - SportsDirect.com
Shakespeare Mach 1 XT 11ft Commercial Feeder Fishing Rod - SportsDirect.com

Funnily enough, Sam, I saw them on sports direct about half an hour ago and it's swayed me towards buying them from there!

Need a good reel to pair with the feeder rod, something cheap, any suggestions?

I have the 12ft waggler and the 14ft power feeder. Both are lovely rods for the price. Incidentally, I paid more than £20.00 pounds for them (around £30.00 each, if I recall) and even at the higher price, I considered them excellent value for money.

I fish with Drennan float rods now (Acolyte, Floatmaster and Matchpro), but I still use the waggler rod from time-to-time. It has a beautiful action, just the right side of soft, and it definitely doesn't feel like it cost a tenth of the price of the Acolyte.

The Power Feeder is a fantastic bream rod - oversized guides for shockleaders, plenty of power for distance casting, but sensitive tips and a nice progressive curve. My brother has the Mach 2 version, which is also a lovely rod.

You won;t be disappointed. I'd recommend taking a look at sportsdirect, and pairing them with some of the Mach 2 reels that seem to be on special there all the time.

If you have any specific questions, just ask.

Bullnose is right. Nothing wrong with Shakespere stuff if you are on a limited budget. Today I had an "easy" day on an easy water with a couple of recent purchases, a Shakespere 11 foot Specialist and a Omni Ledger 9.6". The pair cost just over £40 and handled numerous carp to high singles beautifully.
It would be nice to be able to spend £400 on two rods but I doubt they would be 10 times better because of the law of diminishing returns.
PS. The easy water idea was to avoid The Trent during opening week!!!

Great shout that mate. I'm currently working in a pub opposite a stretch of the Trent (church laneham) and the pub sells day tickets and season passes. There's been that much demand for people to fish this stretched that not a single peg is free this week as everyone has been buying their day tickets in advance of open day!

Ive had a 13ft mach 1 xt waggler for about 4 years now and its took some abuse.
Used it on canals & commercials , where it handled carp to 15lb .Its a decent rod and well worth it for the price IMO
Ive got a mach 3 040 reel that I use for feeder fishing , also a decent reel

Its not controlled by the pub, we just sell the day tickets. Its not regularly policed either and you can buy tickets on the bank, that's usually what I do and last season I only got checked a few times. As for the opposite bank, I don't know who runs that as our pegs are on our side of the river.

All of the "Mach" ranges 1,2 and 3 were discontinued by Shakespeare about two years ago now so must be getting a bit thin on the ground by now.
All the ranges were decent value for money two years ago at shop prices so for what they are being punted out for now they are a bargain but don't expect any back up or spares if you have a problem.
