Do you really need to spend that much though?

Just wait until he sees the discount he gets for a pair :D

I wish I was more familiar with the rod... not wishing to judge a book by its cover but it looks an extremely nice bit of kit, I would have thought that the Harrison blank speaks for itself and the guy certainly appears to know his onions.

Which rod do you refer to binary as both are on Harrison blanks.
Cal_Sutt no I don't have to spend that much, but I work hard, and fishing is something I thoroughly enjoy doing so why not?

I have quite a few Harrisons going back some 15 years and am obviously well pleased with them - one thing to remember is that they produce over 100 blanks and not every one is suitable for everyone........................

Sorry Chris I was referring to the Harrison Dark Carbon on face value and the builder's write up, I've no experience of the Trefor West either though I'm afraid.

If price is not an issue Hardy used to do an ultra-light Avon which I think was around a 1lb tc which might have fitted the bill well in addition to the heavier Specialist and Specimen Avons but probably a bit of a Marmite brand/rod?

If I win the lottery put me down for a Bruce & Walker Hexagraph but at £800 - £900 i'll have to pass on it for now

If you have the money then yes, why not? I, however, cannot justify it as I am a student only working part-time. Whether you buy your rods from DragonCarp or you get them custom built at Harrison, it's the fact that that piece of carbon fiber or fibreglass is what gets you out doing something productive; in the open country or an urban stretch of canal, chasing huge carp or bit bashing, its all fishing and it's what we all love to do - so spend £200+ on a rod if you want, or spend a tenner on a rod. It's all down to yourself in the end.

Lol...

They're all the original Marksmans... the 13' Specialist Float and 13' Specimen Float, 11' 6" Specimen Avon, 13' Extreme Feeder and the 10' Ultra-Lite Bomb Rod.

Every time I add another I swear it will be the last :eek:mg:

My favorite rod for Chub fishing is one I had made about 6 years ago.

It is a stepped-up Avon style rod on a Harrison's blank with a full cork handle.
It has a medium to through action and yo can feel the power right through to the butt.

I have winkled out Chub to 5lbs 15ozs from the Hampshire Avon and never had a single problem.

Chris,i have a few Harrison's and others that i consider quality rods,i cant see the point in buying lesser rods, because upgrades will have to be made, because of that only your budget should control your choice,a funny thing, but I believe I can land big fish on any rod(if conditions allow),the biggest controller of option should be:- venue/s,line strengths you use and methods you choose to employ,i have float rods for chub,a medium feeder rod for chub and "Avon's",you could also have a spinning rod for them, this fishing lark gets complicated(if you want).
