I am a freshwater angler who hasn't fished from a beach for over 25 years (when I lived in Cornwall) but now I have bought a holiday home in St Osyth near Clacton and want to start doing some beach fishing along the St Osyth stretch with my son.

Can anyone who has fished along the St Osyth stretch of coast give me any advice as to what rigs and lead sizes to try from the beach there and what species are predominant there?

ie. Should I setup my 11ft Bass rod and 3 to 4oz leads? or a 13ft beachcaster and 6oz grip leads? I looks fairly deep close in as the tide only seems to move a small distance out at low tide, and there are huge rock breakwaters along the beach which look very fishy, but someone who fishes there may be able to give me some useful info to point us in the right direction.

 thanks
