Christmas is over and with New Year approaching comes the corny old question of New Year resolutions so I may as well start it off.

1. I am coming out. Not that way!! Just Admitting I have never used a method feeder. Have resolved to buy a set and practise at it.

2. Same with drop shotting.

3. Join the LAA and have a week at Britford.

4. More roach less carp.

What's yours.

1 Spend more time on the bank.
2 Stop compensating for lack of time on the bank by buying stuff that I ultimately do not use. I too have some method feeders that as of yet have never been used along with some other questionable purchases.
3 Take every opportunity to talk to other club members.
4 Go a whole season without hooking a tree (now that is ambitious!)
5 Get that elusive big Roach!!!!!!!!

1) The eternal quest for a big perch (4lb+)

2) A session on Redmire (if I'm not already too late booking)

3) Experiment how I can optimise my ratio of fish caught against bait (feed) expenditure

4) For later in the season, a double figure zander

I'd like to add a new species. I'd love to catch a truly big roach. Most of all I want to enjoy my fishing.

Rubio........You cannot be a million miles away from ' Bures ' on the Suffolk Stour, once the home of some very big roach. Okay, so it is a long time ago since I last fished the place, but surely your ' big roach dream ' could be realised with such a lovely river close by ??

Good luck, anyway !!

Same as it has been for many years - and will probably be for many more to come.

1. Catch a 30lb Pike
2. Continue to enjoy my fishing.

1/. To get out fishing more !!
2/. To fish with some old mates.
3/. To use the New Drop Shot gear I got for Christmas.
4/. Not to get upset by the Match orientated Committee, at the main Club I belong too.
5/. To catch a few fish and smell the Roses along the way :)

NOT definitive :

1. Make better use of the summer early morning / late evening periods - too much time wasted on periods of day which produce comparatively little......
2. Fish into darkness ( in my pursuit of quality roach ) on a regular basis
3. Reappraise some of the rarely fished swims on waters I fish regularly by plumbing thoroughly and making more concise notes...
4. Touch base again with some big tench
5. Try to improve my crucian carp returns by reassessing methods /approach

I could go on, but the above is more than enough to be going on with !!

ps Yes, the overriding theme this coming year will definitely be ' make better use of available fishing time '..........................

In no particular order:

A bigger roach from a river, currently my best is 1-11 from the Itchen ( am lined up to try the Test this January)

Another 30lb Carp from my Syndicate water, to prove the first wasn't a fluke!

Get out in the evenings more than I have in recent years

Work on the perfect cup of tea, on the bank, watching the sun go down

Not to get too irate at the tendency of some of my 'brothers of the angle' to try and split us up into smaller 'sects'. We are all just anglers, whatever we fish for.

Sounds like my club!

Sounds like my club too....but in reverse.
You just cannot get the match boys out to do working parties. They just complain when the flat prepared pegs deteriorate and get mucky.
Then disappear until the next fixture.
Humbug Humbug Happy New year to all.

.
Fish different places , fish better , fish more , more fish.

The enjoying it more resonates with me quite a bit , I am never really relaxed when fishing or anything really , probably why I used to drink so much, last year I started taking audio books with me and I do remember listening to William Shatner's autobiography and not really caring whether the rod went round or not. That's my aim this year to achieve that zen like state.
