POLARIS STINGER LEDGER BITE INDICATOR 12" TIPS,LEDGER FISHING CARP BREAM ROACH | eBay
just took delivery of one of these yesterday of ebay its worth a punt at this price and look quite good to do this method of fishing never done this before, will try it when i will go bream fishing when it warms up a touch.
and see if it will give me better results in seeing the bites better, might of been on here when i saw a thread about these how the quiver tip had took over the swing tip
people saying it was a far better seeing the bites on dropbacks and get better catch rates using the swing tip.
just putting it on here if anyone was after doing this style of fishing .

Hi
If you want to properly experience "Swing Tip" fishing I have some NEW old stock, original design Fred Foster style swing tips based on Jack Claytons original idea for sale. To date I have sold over 150 and had nothing but good reports about them. I obviously use then myself for ledgering for Bream and they are much better than the solid rubber 90 degree bend type.
At 70 I haven't a clue how to put a link on this, but if you go to Electronics, Cars, Fashion, Collectibles, Coupons and More | eBay and go to the metalmicky1944 shop you will see the swing tip at the bottom of the list of items for sale, or E-mail me if you want more information at hottapmike@hotmail.com.

There
I still use a swing tip on occasions. I have even recently bought a new rod by Shakespeare that has the required screw fitting. 11 Foot Specialist. A pleasant rod for about 30 quid.

Another idea that might be of help? I use tapered solid glass swing tips, I have filed a flat on the end to take a Drennan beta light (meant for quivers) and held it in place with clear shrink tube - great for swing tipping in the dark. Fit the beta light on the same side of the end ring on the swing tip.

An advantage of the butt mounted indicator is that when fishing a slow river or a canal with a bit of a tow you can sink the rod tip underwater to avoid floating leaves in the autumn and still see bites.

If I was looking to buy a swing tip for improved bite registration, I wouldn't buy the one above. Because as a result of only having one eye, when your line is pulled the angles in the line don't allow the tip to move as much as it would do if your line ran tighter to your rod and the swing tip.
would you put a extra eye on it ,would that aid the line nearer to the rod and where the swing tip meets the rod.

Very we'll known on the Irish match scene Barrie smith, these types of swing tips were very good for fishing in choppy water with a strong undertow. That's the reason for the fixed angles

Just going to bring this one up again as I do like swing tip fishing but not done it for a long while. I have recently read somewhere a manufacturer is selling swing tip rods....ain't got a clue what they are but I'll say this....the last eye has to be cut off at approx 3" from the second ring (depending on action required) and the the required rubber is attached.....in my experience parallel carbon is the the best choice of swing tip to use with a reasonable sized end eye perhaps a little bigger than the 2nd....... So many variables and you need to practice your casting action otherwise it becomes an expensive game :)

As some might know the next step from the fixed angle was the butt indicator. This is a very efficient way if legering and registering a bite in very choppy water with extreme under toes, even rivers.....in Ireland there's not much difference sometimes. You have to use this system . Stiff rod spring loaded butt indicator. Stick the tip of your rod as far as your under water and point your rod tip at the angle the line comes out of the tip..... It's not purist but it works

I don't use this method in England and I wonder why not?

Does any one try it over here.... Or do we just stick are rods up in the air and get neck ache?
