What if any is the advantage of stoz and in what situation

I've only ever used split shot for my fishing and don't fish the pole

Size 6 or larger I use shot, size 8 or smaller I use Stotz - I just find them less fiddly / easier to attach in smaller sizes, & more likely to stay on!

Never used either and still fiddling around with no.10 split shot to some effect and a brimming swear box, I know it won't be long now so will watch with much interest

I use an olivette for bulk and stotz for the rest. I find them easier to put on and they stay on better.

can you put stoz on by biting them with your teeth same as shot are they too soft

Yes you can but NO NO NO. They are lead and therefore toxic. Use shot pliers.
I got mine (Daiwa) off ebay.
Easy to use in 8s and 10s and don't ping off under tension.
Put on gently they can be moved to adjust them.
Matrix do a copy. Just as good but more for your money.

If you've go a set of forceps they do the job very well - they're not just for photographing you know....
