Hi - Have recently joined a water that holds nice Perch and the guy who runs tells me they were coming out drop shotting. Now this method is new to me.
I get the gist of the method but would welcome any advice, or experiences. The main question is do you use a lure ?, if so whats the best style/make to use ?

No but a six footer can be jigged all day whereas an eleven footer may give you fatigue.

I got carried away last year and bought various expensive bits of drop shot tackle (rod, reel, line, lures, hooks, weights etc). I'd done quite a bit of lure fishing before.

To be honest, I don't enjoy it that much. I love the IDEA of it. Minimal tackle, quick sessions, BIG perch but when I'm doing it I think to myself I'd rather be sat down float fishing!

I haven't given up yet and will keep trying.

Give a go first a few times and then decide whether to take it more seriously (before spending lots of money...).

shane, I used a 11" quivertip rod, a bit of flurocarbon (for the leader) and a £6 berkley drop shot kit and caught on my second or third 2 hour trip to the canal.

I've yet to fully commit to this drop shotting business in terms of confidence, I enjoy it and it's great for a spur of the moment splurge but every perch I've caught this season between 2lbs - 3lbs (and I've had a fair few of them now) has been on conventional float tactics with worm or maggot hookbaits.

I'm getting a few fish on the drop shot but far smaller than what I expected, in fact the last fish I caught on a drop shotted worm was a 3lb chub

I'll keep on giving it a go though both with the soft lures and the real worms, that four pounder might be right under the next overhanging bush :)
