I was thinking about what was my most valuable & important bit of fishing kit the other day and came to the surprising conclusion it was my GPS !

I can replace any rod, reel or bit of tackle but If I lost that I would lose all those fishing spots that have taken so many years to find, so to me its basically priceless!!!...I really should back it up....

What about you …whats your most valuable bit of kit ?

Mines my new Audi, without that I wouldn't be able to go fishing at all LOL..

Seriously, since I had to give up Pole fishing (because of my bad back) and had to get rid of my Poles; my most valuable bit of tackle is now the original 15ft Hardy Marksman Specialist Float rod that I got bought for my early retirement a few years ago.

My wife. She's the one who tell me I can go, what time I should be home and makes the sandwiches. Couldn't do it without her.

My glasses. Without them I might as well not be there.I dropped the only pair I had with me in the lake on arrival one morning and couldn't even thread the rod.

I can still see a stick float at 60 yards and a bailiff at half a mile but to tie a hook or put a bait on a hair...forget about it. Age is a great leveller when it comes to eyesight !

My eyes, ears and brain.... any old kit will catch fish..... without the former you won't:cool:

I've been told by the wife that my brain must be quite valuable as it doesn't get used very often LOL...:)

My car, it would be a pain to get to somewhere I can fish without it, in terms of monetary value it is much more than any single piece of kit I have, and getting my rods etc in it was a big consideration when I chose it.

I agree....the rods and gear have to fit. If I can get Mrs S and the kids in as well then that's a bonus....well,sort of. That's why I had to let the Ferrari go !:D

In an age where I'll happily pay £1500 or more for a new pole, I still possess my first decent rod and it's my most valuable kit.

It's a Shakey Alpha and it cost my Mum £17.95 in 1977. I felt guilty then and I still do now - that was a chunk of wedge when my pocket money was circa 20p a week or so at the time.

It reminds me of a huge sacrifice she made to start me on this road....:)
