Hi all.

I was wondering if anyone can help please?

I believe Korum & Preston Innovations are the same company?
Does this mean that there is a compromise in quality?

Reason i ask is that many of the Korum equipment is about 50% cheaper.

Hi have the Korum CS-4000 Reel with 7 bearings & i have the Preston PXR-Pro 4000 with 6 bearings.

Both reels are great. Korum priced @ £39.99 and the Preston @ £71.95.

I actually prefer the Korum. I also have a couple of rods from both and prefer the Korum.

Any thoughts??

Korum's contact details are listed under the Preston Innovations address. Aren't you trying to compare chalk and cheese, though? Preston products are match-oriented; Korum's are specialist-oriented.

To be honest i never even gave it a thought. I am new to fishing have started last season at the age of 52. I was just interested in quality.

I am a Radio Ham. The expensive stuff comes from Japan. You can buy similar equipment at half the price but components come from Korea, Singapore etc etc.

Works the same as the equipment from Japan but much cheaper.

Hence the comparison.

As has been said, Korum are the Specialist side of Preston Innovations... the Korum gear tends to be a bit tougher (to my mind anyway) whereas the PI gear, being match oriented, has a tad more finesse, which may be reflected in the pricing structure...

As an aside, I heard a rumour recently that Preston innovations was being sold off to holding company Zebco... can anyone confirm or deny this...? if so will it have an effect on quality as I'd always considered Zebco a "Cheap and Cheerful" end of the tackle market... I'd hate to see the Korum and PI names cheapened by Zebco's quality ethic:confused::wh:eek:mg:

David Preston was overheard by Des Taylor in the early years trying to sell adjustable legs for seat boxes he made in his mums garage.

"Nice lad" said Des to the shop owner, "but he'll lose his shirt"!

IMO it's all about marketing, the brand name Preston is held in higher regard than Korum. I accept that (in this case) reels are hard to compare as they may contain parts that vary in cost and function but that only slightly clouds the water....

A Korum 1.5oz flat pear lead sells for £1.15: Korum K Flat Swivel – Chapmans Angling

Whereas the Avid version is one and a half times the price £1.75: Avid Carp Flat Swivel – Chapmans Angling

Why do Avid Carp like or like products cost so much more, I'd say it's 'carp tax'!
Where if the word carp appears on anything connected to a product, the price rockets up.
