Specialist chair

I'm pretty sure that a few months ago a thread included mention of a lightweight folding chair that many specialists used prior to the likes of Fox, JRC etc muscling in. I think the company that produces them is based in Oxford. Can anybody remember this thread and the name of the chairs or the company? I have tried doing a search fo the forum threads but have not found it.

Hi Kevan,
I remember somebody mentioning chairs made by Lafuma.

There was Lafuma as Richard say's but also the wonderfully named Redmire Low Chair from the Tackle Shop Gaisborough was identical to the Fox Adjustalevel other than the cover was black.

Thank you guys. I think it was the Lafuma, it certainly rings a bell. The reson I want to look is that at the moment I have a Fox Super Deluxe Adjuster level chair. It's very nice but I am having some problems in getting comfortable on it - my on going back problem. I'm pretty sure it was Lafuma who made an orthopaedic style folding chair that would be suitable for fishing. If not then I will have to try some sort of cushioning arrangement or lumbar support - which I used to use on my office chair when I was working.

I think you are thinking of a thread I started when I was looking for a Lafuma Low Chair, some Lafuma chairs are supplied by the Oxford Centre for Reflexology and they did in fact get me a low chair. It was not the particular chair I was after but @ ?15 I wasn't complaining!

If you have a back problem I don't think a very low chair (4 inches ground clearance) would be of any great benefit to you anyway.

One problem I have noticed with most fishing chairs these days is that they are all one piece seat and back, this I feel leads to a slouched sitting position which is not good for your back. I keep my old mark two Fox chair on the go(it's on its third cover now ) for precisely this reason it has a separate seat and back.

Kevan,if I try and make a link of this I'll just make a prat of myself so you'll have to "copy and paste", but this is the original thread, the pic on the website is what I sent to them to confirm that they had the right chair but it does not match the chair supplied.

The "official" Lafuma name for the chair I was after(the one in the pic) is a canoe chair,I did find it eventually on an american website (lumbarland) but the website was closed down for a long time shortly after I first found it and not sure if it is open now.

Thanks John. I went onto the Oxford site and they have now included a link for visitors from FishingMagic - good of them. You are actually mentioned in their write up. You are 100% correct about low chairs. I have to use my present Fox chair cranked up high - adjustable leg height. This is the only drawback with the Lafuma. The legs are not adjustable. I have been told to try sitting in a JRC Cocoon chair to try it out. I shall do but looking at it I doubt whether there will be any difference to my Fox.

Cheers John.

Blimey Neil, do you want me to kill myself??? Our orthopaedic mattress is so heavy that I would not only put my back out for a year but I'd end up with a hernia too :)))))

I know what your trick is. You're trying to stop me from pinching your jam buckets ;-)
