If reels are labled as " 30 " or "40". Is that kinda like a 3000 and/or 4000 sized models of the bigger names like Shimano and such? And can we assume that a "30" is a tad smaller than a "40" ?
Each manufacturer is slightly different on sizing but generally what you say is about right,30 = 3000 40 = 4000 etc but some are well out for an example a Rovex Aurora 6500 is as big as any 8000 size by others.
