I read this in one the newspapers the other day, I reckon they've been here all the time and that lamprey mark on Martin Gay's carp belly proves it was in fact caught in this country
I have seen one of these, the ugliest thing in water, it was stuck on a small weir in the Eastern Rother; about 3ft long. I believe they only travel up rivers to spawn and not into lakes and I "believe-not entirely sure" they do not feed when they do like salmon so I doubt it would be responsible for a lamprey mark on a lake carp.
Even better zander baits. They were hard to come by last year.....I only managed to find a couple of packs but every single inch gave me a run. I even had zander on the heads which I rarely use. Out fished even my banker roach cutlet !
The headline is rather misleading. They have been running in plenty of English rivers for years. I've seen them a few times in my local river over the last twenty years or so. They even stopped repair works on one of the bridges earlier this year to save disturbing spawning lampreys.
Lampreys migrate up the Yorkshire Derwent, have seen them in huge numbers at the bottom of Kirkham Abbey Weir.In the early spring, waiting I presume on enough water level to continue their journey upriver to spawn.
