I read this in one the newspapers the other day, I reckon they've been here all the time and that lamprey mark on Martin Gay's carp belly proves it was in fact caught in this country ;) :)

Smashing pike baits...

I have seen one of these, the ugliest thing in water, it was stuck on a small weir in the Eastern Rother; about 3ft long. I believe they only travel up rivers to spawn and not into lakes and I "believe-not entirely sure" they do not feed when they do like salmon so I doubt it would be responsible for a lamprey mark on a lake carp.

Lampreys migrate up the Yorkshire Derwent, have seen them in huge numbers at the bottom of Kirkham Abbey Weir.In the early spring, waiting I presume on enough water level to continue their journey upriver to spawn.
