Well the wallet takes the strain, what do we do, either way it will cost us serious money. Syndicates allow us that piece of exclusivitey, we can prebait owing to the restricted membership and if it is not a trophy venue, you will probably have a reasonable bit of peace. Club, most clubs rent there premier fisheries out for matches at weekends, so where does that leave the working man, disappointed, holding a cheap ticket with some good venues but limited access. Day ticket, expensive as a one off, probably the same pressure as the club guys due to weekend match bookings, so where do we go. Check out the rivers and canals in your vicinity, day ticket, restrict it to your holiday days, midweek, same with clubs, if you just want good fishing, pick a non trophy producing venue and join the syndicate, fantastic clubs, I would recommend the Leighton Buzzard AC, to anyone, three very different fantastic waters, cheap with massive targets. Thoughts please.

My club, £95 per annum, 11 waters comprising 8 pools (some large enough to call lakes) stocked with mainly carp to 30lb+, some silvers and bream, the occasional pike to over 30lb.

two stretches of the severn, pike, chub, barbel, zander + the usual others.

one stretch (2ml) of the shropshire union canal, stocks unknown to me as i havn't had time to check it out yet ;)

plus i can more or less guarantee to have any lake to myself on any given day so, who needs day tickets or expensive syndies

A good mix of all three for me.

I don't particularly recognise the type of club you describe. Two clubs I've been involved in, one has just one match per year on their waters, the other a few more, but nothing excessive. Certainly not for both days of a weekend, and not enough for anyone to have a legitimate gripe about.

Syndicates vary massively in both cost and style. An awful lot of syndicates aren't really what they purport to be. However, despite the seemingly high costs involved, it always puzzles me that some folks balk yet think nothing of paying at least £25 per twenty four hours every week on a more commercial fishery. Syndicates, even damned expensive ones, often aren't as horrendously overpriced as they superficially appear to be. I have friends that won't join syndicates because they cost too much. However, they end up spending two or three times the amount I do for a fraction of the bank time.

Day ticket waters vary massively. I know of hidden gems that many don't bother with because they are a bit too difficult. I know of hidden gems that hide in plain view. Waters with ignored potential for species other than those that most are interested in. Many day ticket waters aren't always busy, even on a weekend.

Think a move North looks good, its a bit different in these parts unfortunately, you two are talking the dream scenario from my point of view.

The snag is likely to be that you'd have to lower your expectations with respect to the size of the fish you can reasonably expect to catch.

Well, I can tell you that I'm in two syndicates, one river, one stillwater. I'm in one club, which is predominantly river fishing. Even on a weekend, I can go to any of them without any expectation of seeing another soul fishing. In some instances the fishing actually suffers for it. Some venues would actually benefit from seeing a bit more bait.

Most of the clubs around here lease the local carp puddle at extortionate rents, the only way they can get there money back is to hire them out for matches at the weekends, sadly that's just when working blokes want a days relaxing fishing, they take our club book money and then close access just when we want to go, most of the clubs are run by match anglers and controlled by guys that have retired and get there fishing when the rest of us are at work.

One of the clubs I belong to has a remote private estate lake full of decent sized fish; for which I was awarded a free lifetime membership (for over 30 years service to the club).
Club membership numbers are strictly limited, and membership is by invitation only, so it is quite common for me to have the 3 acre estate lake to myself; especially midweek.

My other club has access to over 20 excellent venues; both stillwater and running water in Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Essex.
In addition the club also has free access to a Commercial fishery in Essex for members who like fishing such places.

It is rare for me to fish a day ticket water more than once or twice a year.

And a lot of day ticket waters try to do the same - as I've found out a few times when finding a couple of hours to get on the bank just to spend all that time driving from one place to the next

Still, with the onset of winter, and many anglers staying at home with their tortoise wax; I should have a better choice of where to go for a few.

I prefer FREE myself; suits my personality "tight as the proverbial...." and my pocket no end.

A bonus is I always feel a bit smug about free fish and add a few £pounds to their weight.

Perhaps comrade Corbyn will nationalize fishing and its all free under the fishing license. Theres a thought, 3 million votes in it, he might be tempted.!

Awaiting editing!

More like 5 million, but unfortunately, the lefty prat would probably ban it , along with the hunting with dogs.

Tried them all, now only member of one club and fishing only midweek, it is quieter than some of the Syndicates I was a member of.
Remember one so called syndicate I joined, found out later when I turned up to fish it had it had no available swims and membership open to all.

I've got a BAA ticket which represents seriously good value for money at £40. OK you do get some matches but not that many and it's rare to see any venue with more than one or two a month. Some of the local clubs have some good waters (Kinver Freeliners being an example) but are a little more expensive so I would only consider membership of another club if I had more time to fish. I do fish on some day ticket waters noticeably pools in Wales (the local rivers are game only) and a little stretch of local river. As for Syndicates, most are Carp (or Barbel), I have little interest in the former and on a river I don't really specialise so unless the price was right I don't think I'd bother.

Is that your photo???? If so I am sure you will be welcomed on any club water.:wh

On a more sensible note, Since moving here to Lincs I have to keep pinching myself at a lot of the low prices of club and day ticket prices.
£10 for one of the best barbel rivers, £20 for a smashing club lake and £100 for a syndicate lake that is an absolute dream of tranquility and privacy.
I havn't joined some of the other available clubs costing the exorbitant prices of up to £35-£40 as I have only one lifetime to fish them all.
