Oh dear, its good to talk, this chaps charachter has been questioned over the years, his competence is not in question, his mates wont boast on his behalf. He has all the attributes of the old school specimen angler, if you dont agree, you are welcome to your opininion, he made a mistake by highlighting his capture, the new wave could not stomach the fact that some non carp mafia mug had done the impossible with his simple baits and rigs tried to destroy his reputation. Let the guys memory rest in peace, if you need to idolise the carp puddle specialists, fine, but dont knock a true pioneer, my thoughts alone.

Absolutely terrible article. I expected nothing less from you.

Terrible piece of journalism which is full of inaccuracies, opinions and assumptions.

Totally smacks of 'no one likes what I am saying in the thread so as its my website I'm going to write an article about it instead'

Here are some clarifications for your readers and answers to your questions 'directed' at me.

1. I am not Paul Selmans friend. I have never met him, fished on the same lakes as him or spoken to him apart from a couple of posts on Internet forums. He is as much my friend as he is yours. Just because he repeated something I said does not make him my friend.

2. I am not going to post or speak to anyone about my conversations with my neighbours because last time I did it all this **** happened. After all rubbish that has come up around the conversation I can't think of anything I would want to talk to my neighbour about less than this. Unlike you, I have no desire to learn where the fish came from.

3. The only reason I am still following this story is to ensure that I am correcting the inaccuracies and lies that you regularly write, twisting my words and making things up to discredit me.

Sorry Cliff you haven't despite the length of your answers you lack specifics about contact with Martin's family in Canada , are you in contact with them have you and Eddie tried to verify James's story. Have Martin's canadian family definitely said that he did not fish in Canada ?

This is starting to seem a little distasteful now frankly but if you are happy to take questions so be it.

If the big carp were caught in a british lake in 1990 why not name the place now in 2015?

It is unlikely that if the big carp are still in that water they have been there undiscovered or only found by other anglers who have not named the venue in 25 years

James: I sincerely apologize for 'befriending' you with Paul Selman - my error, though I did see a facebook entry some time ago that linked you as 'friends'. It would seem that one shouldn't take this too literally. Presumably those seemingly-personal, occasional greetings from PS were one-sided too. Sorry, James.

I'm surprised at your apparent outrage, James; the reply to the third question is very much in your favour. It makes the point that you can only report what Nate has told you. So without further ado, don't you, James, find it strange and illogical that Nate could report to you that his uncle came home white and visibly shaking when he - apparently - found the carp but couldn't tell you how Uncle Martin returned from the lake at a later time flushed with success?
This is a crucial point. Martin, his wife, nephew Nate, his mum - and dad presumably - were all living under the same roof for 2 - 2 1/2 weeks so Nate would have seen his uncle celebrating his success, wouldn't he? If he didn't, we can safely assume that Martin never fished Lake Ontario.

jesus christ Cliff, i have politely suggested that you close the other 'infamous' thread in the hopes of sparing all of martins friends and family any more distress but here you go again
is it just your intention to drag MG's name thru the virtual mud that is being propagated here on this forum?
what the hell can you hope to gain? you say that you don't want the fish reinstated into the record books, (that's good because it was never going to happen) you also say that you would like to clear Martins name of any wrong doing, THAT ALSO IS NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN CLIFF.
the one and only reason you are never going to accomplish that goal is the inability to produce the only proof that would be acceptable, the photo's we are now in the unenviable position of having an editor who it seems is intent on becoming the laughing stock of fora far and wide. :eek:mg::eek:mg:
a word of advice Cliff, dont do it. dont do it to martin and his widow, dont do it to the rest of his family and friends and most of all dont do it to yourself and eddie because believe me when i say "it would be a tragedy".
