Fred, what is the rationale for only allowing BS members to participate in the auction?Would not more funds be raised if it was open to all who had an interest in the species?

I've just had an update, there will be over 50 items in the auction, includingan amazing day with Dave Steuart on his stretch of the Test, framed signed original proofs from Martin and Hughs Catching the Impossible book, more paintings, books, bait and tackle.

If any ofmy FM friendswould like to donate something, a day's fishing with you,or on your fishery, an item of equipment, works of angling art, a signed copy of yourbook, all would be very welcome.

Don't forget, it could be your river that receives some funding.

Ifyou don't want to join up to The Barbel Society, even for £10!

I can bid on your behalf.

On both counts, PM me

Thanks

Fred

The Barbel Society is pleased to announce that the grand total raised for the Research and Conservation Fund in the recent BS online auction was in excess of £7600.

Grateful thanks from the Society go to major tackle forms such as Bruce and Walker, Drennan, Fox, Shimano, Dynamite Baits and Nutrabaits, to name just a few, as well as noted anglers such as John Wilson, Martin Bowler, Phil Smith, Chris Holley and Graham Elliott, who all donated tackle or fishing days.

The extra funds mean that projects such as barbel stocking and habitat improvement on the Dorset Stour, Thames, Teme and Yorkshire Aire can be continued, and further work on the Ouse, Kennet and Hampshire Avon are now being considered.

The Barbel Society recently funded a stocking of barbel into the River Aire, with a £1000 grant to Keighley Angling Club.

There will be work in partnership with the EA on the River Teme in the New Year, kick started with BS funds, and there will be further stocking of the Dorset Stour next year, when a further 3000 Calverton bred barbel will be added to 6000 already introduced to the river as part of a scheme initiated by the BS.

"Ideas and funding from the BS has meant that a joint expenditure of well over £60, 000 will have occurred in partnership with the EA and fishing clubs in the last two years, all of potential benefit to barbel and barbel rivers"
