Lovely Article/Story that will bring back fond memories for many of us.

No playstations or tablets or mobiles. Making ones own excitement without the restrictions many kids face now of going out and exploring. Enjoyed it very much. Thanks Crow.

A good read...I like the bit about the keeper using a bit of common sense and letting you fish as you did no harm.

I doubt that would happen very often today.

Lovely read, ace-100%.
Makes me a little bit sad for the days when it was all a bit simpler, innocent and just fun though.
Still never mind, rose tinted glasses and all that..
Thanks Crow, enjoyed that.

50s? Early 60s, Crow? Post-war years when everyone was merely relieved to have made it through and had little to complicate their lives...special years for youngsters. Thanks, Crow - lovely.

Re: The Crow: 'Guesting'

Reminds me of when I started, I had a run in with a owner of one small pond.
I was expecting the worst but he just said you can't fish here.
When I went to leave he said don't climb over the fence and took me out through the main gates. Often wondered that if I had asked to fish maybe I would have been allowed to.
Can't believe that it is now 50 plus years later and I can still picture that little pond.
Noticed recently that the pond which had become overgrown as been cleared so maybe someone is looking after it again.

Excellent read Mr Crow thank you for the trip down memory lane!
My lane was a different one in a different part of the country, but it was no less exciting fishing with my home made pole and tackle :)

Re: The Crow: 'Guesting'

Wonderful piece and very atmospheric. Brought back lots of memories of tackle slowly accumulated and stored in old tobacco and biscuit tins and rod strapped to the cross bar! Everything was used then and treasured. Nice that someone in authority saw your enthusiasm and did not wish to spoil it for you.:D

Re: The Crow: 'Guesting'

Lovely tale Crow, nicely told. Being a city lad I never had the joy of 'guesting' on estate lakes which would have been a thrill. Good to see the keeper being sensible. Many thanks - Andy

Great piece, Mr Crow. Brightened up an otherwise lousy day and fired up my creative juices. Time to pester the editor. :)

Thanks again, enjoyed that. :)

Re: The Crow: 'Guesting'

I'm sure many have memories of fishing pond and lakes they didn't have permission to fish as youngsters

I fished a pond in a farmers field that we want supposed to fish

I'm not sure why we even fished it as it had a few small perch and Rudd in it and we never caught much

Looking back I suppose it was that we were not supposed to be there that had a certain appeal
