This article captures the mood of the time very well. It brought back fond memories ...South Ockendon/Mollands Lane and greenhart rods.
I used to borrow my dads bike that weighed a ton on a Sunday morning to cycle to Mollands Lane fishery from Dagenham.
Sometimes I even got away without buying a day ticket as kids like to do.

I did catch a few fish occasionally but if only I had an uncle like Tom to set me on the right track. I used an old 12 foot (very floppy) greenhart salmon rod or a 7 foot spinning rod.

I didn't even know what a plummet was and looking back, I didn't have a clue except that all I wanted to do was to fish.

Its been fun learning though.

Nice read Eddie, every kid starting out should have an uncle Tom to help them on their way, love the cricket bat I had one just like it and remember how much it jarred if we used a hard ball.

Will your nephew(s) be writing stories like this about you?
Have you secured another generation of your family into angling?
