Take it out the night before if you are planning on fishing the morning.
. . . . but for swifter thawing; then break it up and spread the hemp out onto a large baking tray so as to increase the surface area for the warmer ambient temperature.

Definitely thaw it the day before, sometimes frozen hemp can float.
If you put it in water all the hemp that's floating sinks after a few hours.
I find it's better to thaw in water to stop it floating.

I made the mistake of throwing in lumps of frozen heap only to see seeds floating on the top attracting ducks
