I have been fishing a mixed lake that has bream , chub, tench, ide, barbel, and carp most of the fish are 2-6lbs but the carp are up to 20lbs …Would my drennan series 7 12ft Specialist Avon Quiver 1.5lb handle a 10 to 20lbs carp I'm using 8lb main line and 6lb hook length I'm not targeting the big carp but they are there

I've caught mid doubles on this particular rod from a relatively weed / snag free lake and no real problems, although on occasion I felt as though the carp had the upper hand so I suppose it depends, to some extent, on the type of water you're fishing..

As you have the rod you will know the action goes down through the middle so if you needed to ' hold ' a better fish away from obstructions you might find it wanting, especially on the initial run(s). If however, you are generally fishing for all the other species you've mentioned with just the odd chance of hooking bigger fish I suggest it will suffice............As I say, it depends on your water.

As a matter of interest I also have a Drennan 1,75lb TC ' Tench / Bream ' rod 11' long which I use for carp and despite its name it does a damn good job for fish of the size you mention and in testing waters. A real work horse of a rod with plenty of backbone and although not as fashionable as other ' named ' rods with price tags to match, I really enjoy using it...........

I see you have another thread running asking about suitable rods for a given situation, so others will come up with more suitable samples, I'm sure !

If I can just say ; Have a good look at your water and the swims you intend fishing, note all possible snags etc. and then decide if the rod of your choice has the power to keep a surprise fish away from those snags....Nothing worse than a good fish buried in the lillies and no way of moving it !!

Apologies if the above is too much ' Teaching grandmother to suck eggs ' but I have no idea of your level of experience..

Good luck !
