As suggested by Tee-Cee a thread for value DECENT gear for those unable or unwilling to commit to top end stuff or beginners wanting to feel their way into fishing.
My suggestions would be the following. What's yours. Lets hear from the sea and fly guys as well!!

Shakespeare. Omni and Sygma ranges often sold a discount.

NGT carp rods in the Dynamic Range. Put a posh label on them and your couldn't tell the difference( to a Philistine like me anyway).

British PVA in bulk with special offers.

Dymamite Carp Tec range of boilies. £7 a kilo last time I looked.

Boyes stainless steel rod rests.

Sensor bulk line.

Over to you......:)

Korum Barbel rods, £50 or less and very good value.

Glow sticks from e bay not much for lots.

Swivels and rubber shock beads from e bay very cheap, I buy them 100 at a time.

Shakespeare Omni 40FS think I paid around £17 quid for it to use for float fishing.

yes also float stops very cheap on ebay

I should maybe say the £50 for a reel is maybe not cheap to some but then again it's down to what you want to pay

Aldi small shoulder fishing bag £9.99, ideal for anglers who don't want to carry the kitchen sink. Lol.

Aldi green fleece jacket £5.99, ideal for keeping the chill off on a windy day or for wearing underneath a jacket in the colder months.

Aldi polaroids, they do a really good job at around three quid a pair

(And when you've sat on 'em it's no big deal, just go and get another pair... Not that it's happened to me of course :wh)

NGT General tackle; hooks luggage, PVA, reel cases etc are all great value.

Grandeslam stuff looks cheap and somebody must buy it although I never have.

How do they do it!

Specialist rods from The Tackle Box in Darent Valley at around 40 quid. Highly recommended by several gentlemen of this forum.

STOP PRESS!!! Yorkshire Trading Company (on the high street) have several types of polaroids in all lens shades reduced from £15-20 (depending on brand) to just £2. I bought SIX pairs and they're very comfortable, particularly the wrap-around type. You may have to rake through several boxes to find them, but it's worth it. The Anarchy glasses are excellent.

Great rod, you won't find better for the price.

NGT make some very very good gear, and it isn't over priced by any means.

Korum rods, the whole range are great for the money, again your be pushed to find rods as good at the price. Korum also have a good range of other gear, some i like, some i don't. Each to their own.

As for reels, there are many on the market that a good for the money.

You don't have to break the bank to get good gear.
