I have for some time made my own Hair Rigs using QM1 14 hooks.

I've always used a light line of 3lb for the hair with stops or silicone rings, then tie the hook length line of 9lb N-Gauge as a knotless knot to the hook albeit of a struggle.

As most waters don't allow braid in my area. My thought of using a light line for the hair in keeping it flexible for presentation.

Does it really matter whether a light line is used for the hair or hook length straight through..

thanks

The only problem I've noted using lighter lines on a hair is the increased number of times it moves back over the hook and reverses the hook. (Turns it upside down)

Not a major issue though

In my experience it depends on the bait type and size that you are putting on the hair, normally with small baits I will use a light hair while large pieces of meat if they are fished on a hair are used with the hair being part of the knotless knot.
