Keep hearing braid mentioned and wondered why you use this, is it the strength ?

Not strength also and it makes neater rigs, presentation in in water, my opinion especially with coated braid and a bit stripped back ideal when carp fishing but good old mono for feeder etc.

Braid is banned on all the waters I can fish ; well over 50!

I am quite happy with mono however! Not a panacea!:)

virtually no stretch so bite indication is fantastic. also offers a much thinner diameter compared to mono so fishing at distance on rivers means the need for much less lead to hold station-i use this on the middle thames for those reasons.

If you are new to fishing ...the term braid that is banded about actually can mean two things.

1 Braid as a main line for the reasons already given and
2 Braid specifically marketed for hook lengths a totally different thing.

You shouldn't use main line braid for hooklinks as it will cut and damage fish mouths.

Some time ago on here KRYSTON took the trouble to explain how their hooklink braids had been tried and tested and did not damage mouths.

Some clever ****y may be able to put a link on here please??:)

Have I got the word Braid wrong ?
Plait or Woven is what I'm thinking of.
