Hello all. I am a returning coarse fisherman. I was never really heavily clued up as a youngster so I would say I am an improver as its been a good ten years since I picked up a rod. I live in Swindon, Wiltshire. Would be good to get to know a few people in the area and hopefully get to know where the best places to fish are. I know having the Cotswolds on my doorstep should be a good thing, but I wouldn't know where to start. Look forward to speaking to you and thanks for taking the time to read.

All the best.

Hi there Jason,

Welcome to the forum

Swindon hey, well yer quite spoilt for choice really as you've got the Bristol Avon virtually on yer door step,
There's about 1.5 miles or so of free fishing on the Avon at Chippenham and has most coarse species but is really renowned as a big roach venue but location is key here, I know the river there quite well as I used to travel from Kent to fish there quite regularly a few years back,

I'd surgest that yer best bet is to call into premier angling in Chippenham and speak to the staff about any further updates,

Don't forget though that there's only another couple of weeks left on the rivers until 14 th March when the season closes, it'll open back up again on 16 th June,

There's a variety clubs on the Bristol Avon aswell around areas like Melksham etc,

There river Kennet and upper reaches of the Thames above Oxford may well be worth looking into aswell.

As for stillwaters I can't be of much help to you unfortunately because I hardly fish Stillwaters nowadays as I just purely specialise in rivers and then rove about on old overgrown canals during the close season :D

Be lucky

Thank you for your welcomes guys.

Mudlarker. Thanks for the advice! I was planning to fish Stillwater during the close season anyhow as I am only fishing a basic waggler set-up, just to get my eye back in again. Once I am more confident then I will introduce a feeder set up and hit the rivers come June 16th. Will most definitely check out my options on the Avon. I don't know how I never even thought of that! :eek:mg::doh:

Thanks again for the advice.

Ok Jas no worries mate, yer setup is also fine for Stillwaters aswell and basically all what I explained above will pretty much be the same for still waters,

Also don't forget to use a plummet as this will gauge the depth at what yer fishing at

Be lucky
