In the tackle shop recently, I noticed a Daiwa 125 closed face on sale, a model that's not changed in circa 40 years.

What other long lasting kit that's available can be compared?

Dinsmores multi-compartment shot dispensers are a long running one and Mepps spinners a long time favourite of many.

Mr Jardines Snap Tackle goes back quite a long way, although probably not as far back as some of Peter J's cane rods....??????

Kev,

Is Jardine's still available? I don't really fish for pike. It's been around since the C19th, hasn't it?

Those rods are like the Holy Grail, do they really exist and what miracles could they conjure? :)

A quick look in the nearest tackle box turned up a Matchman hook tyer, spools of Maxima line and a packet of Drennan Super Spade hooks. Hard to remember when they weren't around.

Not sure but 40 yrs ago I think it could have been a 123 Daiwa.
But I agree the concept of the closed face reel is potentially the same unaltered.

The Daiwa auto bail (DM157? ) has been around quite a while. Only the deity of your choice knows who is buying them though, I rarely see them being used. In a similar vein the Daiwa SS 1600/2600 have been around quite a few years.

My ABU 501. Bought new and still runs smooth. Great when the wind is up or just for trotting. This is probably the only bit of kit that will be in my will. The other bits the wife knowing her will sell them for the bargain price i told her i bought them for

I can't think of anything that been around a long time that hasn't been improved, apart from possibly the centre pin reel. Not much you can change on a spool rotating round a spindle.

Shakespeare still do those plastic seat boxes; they must've been selling them since the eighties. Quite a bit of the John Roberts accessory range, where it's still sold, has been unchanged since launch, and has probably been around as long as the Shakespeare boxes.

The Shakey seat box? Lord, doesn't that take me back? Can I have the padded seat cushion as well?

Bayer Perlon, good shout. Unchanged for ever, Maxima too.

Thanks, all :)

I don't know how you have crammed it all in Ian;) ditto on the Abu 501. I waited 50 years to get one and love it!
