Can anyone identify this fish for me, it was caught were I fish, there calling it a chub, it doesn't look like a chub to me.

I'd hazard a guess at an Ide.
I thought chub had a darker fin, Stillwater chub seem fatter than their river siblings tho'

I'd (see what I did there?) ...say it was an Ide x Chub cross.

It's an ide. The easy way to tell the difference between ide and chub is to expect a lateral line scale count over 55 for ide, circa mid 40s for chub. No evidence of ide hybrids in the UK as yet.

Thanks for the replies, there aren't supposed to be any ide in this pond, there are some in another pond, on the fishery,either someone's moved it or it come in when they stocked some chub a few years ago.

It's not a bad size at four pound six ounce, I've had them over four in the other pond, there fairly easy to catch on bread, they have to grab it quick, before the hordes of small Rudd, get it first.

As as been said by all,it's an ide and a fine example too,much prettier than it's stable mate the golden orfe,blue orfe etc,nice size too,well done.
