This is a bit late in the day but I though I would give it a go. I have just discovered I am going to be in Langport Somerset tomorrow morning with a few hours to kill. There is a river running trough the town (River Parrett) and it is a day-ticket water. Tickets can be purchased from the local newsagent for £4.00). The local AA website gives details of the fish that can be expected.

Having never fished a river before I was thinking of taking a 13ft float rod and going after chub on bread(?) But what float, size of hook and line weight should I use? Or should I take another approach - I will only have about three hours...

...any suggestions will be most appreciated.

Ralph.

Looking at the pictures I'd say a 3 or 4Bb stick float would do with a 12 hook for flake. 3lb main line should be ok...

If you can get a pint of maggots and some 18 hooks you might find some Perch tight in to the bank, they'll work for pretty much anything and four or five on a 12 might attract some bigger fish.
