In the early 70s when poles were elasticated with the use of a crook I was shown a way to elasticate poles using a bead, we called it beading through.
It was just a bead stolen from my sisters necklace to fit the pole as a bung works now, it had elastic from the bead to the tip with a cord from the bead to the female end of the top kit. The tip of the pole was wrapped in PTFE tape that was teased into the pole with a match stick.
It was a real innovation at the time.
The stuff that's brought to mind by a single thread sometimes amazes me.
