ALTERNATIVE ANGLING WEBSITES

Before we start, this is not a "I'm jumping ship" thread, no sir. I'm going down with the ship - if I can't in any way say it - or at least launch a lifeboat or two for it's keener members.

Before any decisions about who's going to buy the Fishingmagic site and who will edit it are taken or even proposed, it's important to look around at the competition.

We've already said that FM is THE BEST, but how many others have we visited?

I'm not looking for specialist or species dependant sites (e.g. Barbel Fishing World), I'm looking for general angling interest sites that have a reasonable history and a list of advertisers. I'm looking for those who charge their members and those who don't.

We have to know what they have for breakfast. (not literally, it's a quote of Michael Collins, one of the founders of a free Ireland - google him.)

Who else do you visit on a regular basis?

How many times per day, week etc.?

INFORMATION!!! The greatest weapon of all.

Cemex and Complete Fisher. Less than weekly. Cemex very carpy, CF trouty but expanding its range. Flyfishing forums, too, for the "Classic Coarse Fishing " section.

And I'm still in mourning for the Waterlog forum, killed off because of trolls.

It will be a disaster if FM dies, it's the only site worth visiting more than once a day, so far as I know.

And a big thank you for the incisive political comment on Michael Collins.

Thanks BTW Alan.

there are several good sites out there

Total-Fishing ..... predominantly Match orintated with a evil moderator by the name of chavender

maggotdrowning ..has a mixed orintation but still leans towards matchfishing but is a good site and well run

anglersnet a good site with a cross section of angling disaplines

anglerstalk a fantastic fun site ,with something for everyone ,and if its not on there ,I'll put it on there ,what can i say its one of mine .which incidently was formed from refugees from the old anglingtimes forum when e-map screwed it up turning it into the gofishing site

go fishing (emaps anglingtimes new replacement) extreamly cliquey and still a poor system even after a year of improvements /fixes.

Free forums (rather than a website) covering most aspects of fishing. Friendly bunch of people, generally forum discussions/banter but some good "trip reports" and regular get togethers.

Visited on a very regular basis (includes a few FMers).

How would I know your old maths teacher, FFS?

I'm talking about the Michael Collins that negotiated the peace to create a free state of Ireland. Of whom Eamon de Valera (1st Prime Minister of Ireland as an independant nation) said soemthign like "He will be more remembered in history than I."

More on him in Wikipedia

End of history lesson. /forum/smilies/smile_smiley.gif

Best FM, second best FM in present state.

So we don't get the articles the same as we used to but the forum is still the same. Keep up the good work chaps (and lasses).

Used to look at two club sites. One was naff as no one went on it much, the second was a much bigger club. I replied to a thread once and all the others could do was chat about my name, not the input to the fishing.

carpy.co.uk - nothing on there about fishing, but loads of free porn!Certainly different Mr Inman, but it doesn't divert much from general abuse hurling, fun after a fashion but crap after a while. anglersnet aint too shabby, Cemtex is not rich in general coarse fishing but has some,BFW is blinkered by one species , the one with Keith Arthur (fishing .co.uk?) has a few decent articles.

Thanks lads, but not seen anything yet to match FishingMagic.

Must have a butchers at that carpy.co.uk though, ta Nobby.

PS. Just had a look, what porn? /forum/smilies/sad_smiley.gif

What a pity a site dedicated to fishing cannot spell "coarse" correctly. How bad is that?
