With the end of the world looming rapidly it is maybe time to take stock and think about your final post on Fishing Magic.

Whatever happens, whether a rescue is successful or not, the FM you came to know is dead. For some it will be a difficult time, it has taken over their lives to the point ofaddiction. To others it became something they did instead of going fishing. So much easier to sit in a comfy chair and talk the talk while those who actually went out and fished got cold and wet.

Bad time of year for them.

But for all of us there will come a time when we make our final post on here. I was actually going to do it today in a similar but not quite the same way as I've walked away from BFW (see locked thread - how barbel feed - on there)but it would seem insensitive to do so. A bit like telling the wife you're going to file for divorce at her mother's funeral.

So folks, this is not the time to throw teddies around orto insult old allies, it's a one and only chance for you to have the last word. Your final statement. So what are you going to say?

Not the Gwyneth Paltrow stuff. It's not like the Internet has been closed. This is one site, one upon which so many nasty things have been said, lies told, evil rumours and insinuations spread. Battles won and battles lost.

Is it really enough to just say oh well, that's it then? Will your final post be an appeal for information on where to buy a peacock quill, how to plumb the depths, where can I catch a carp, or will it have more significance, more depth, more meaning.

You've not got long to think about it. What are you going to say?

Or will it be just like the last day at work before Christmas, all false bon homie, hail fellow well met, a few drinks and cheap trimmings before you go home to the people that matter, dreading the moment when you'll meet up with your dreary, boring colleagues again...

Well, speak up! Has anyone got anything profound to say?

Perhaps we can have a code where if anyone makes a miserable or negativestatement those who feel let down can post 'Humbug!' Or if it is optimistic, 'Merry Christmas', Or of it's %£*&, a simple *^%$£ %££ will suffice...!

But instead of flinging comments here there and everywhere or starting your own threads on the topis, let's make this a scared place. The place where you make your final post.

If I had a last post it would be a wish, that FM will carry on as it always has and in the same manner. Yes, folks have their ups and downs but it all gets sorted out in the wash or in time but if I have to air my views I would rather do it on Fishingmagic than anywhere else.

Apart from all that I am 72 years and 1 day of age and I'm too old to start afresh /forum/smilies/wink_smiley.gif

Dear Magalica,

You profit hungry bunch of money loving ******* If you don't want Fishingmagic and feel you have to unload this financial drain on your retirement plans now times are not so easythen do one decent thing...just the one.

Sell the site and all its contentfor the sum of "one penny" to the first person that comes to you with the intention of keeping this site alive.

Ten years of hard work has gone into creating this site

The site content isn't yours...It was provided without charge by Fishingmagic members

Give it back to them...

Regards

Lee Swords

In a week or two's time.

The lifeboats will have been returned, lifejackets will have been handed back in, Nearer My God To Thee will be your new National anthem, there will be a few name changes to hide embarrassment for the panic caused, apologies may or may not be made for trampling fellow members in order to find the sister ship, but more likely hoping that nobody noticed. And we will all carry on as normal.

My advice:

Sit back, take Grahams advice, and have a nice cup of cha.

God Save The Queen.

If the worst comes to the worst, you could do no better than sign up to Anglers Net forum!

I'm sure many are already members and I would imagine Elton would welcome an injection of humour to his boards.

I'll be sorry to see it go but as Lee says Fishing Magic was it's members and it's the same on most forums.

So give AN a try if you want ssomewhere else to meet up.

I am "lurker", hear me roar.

I'm actually taking Bob Roberts advice (a first & last I think)and working out what my final post will be. As I've written sod all about sod all (of any importance anyway) most will be wondering who the hell I am.

Well this is a snapshot, an outsiders view if you will, of what made fishingmagic's foruma damn good angling site. And thats not taking into account the articles and review sections, which are also good.

Alot of the same names pop up on the forums, some big names too with a wide range of views and useful advice for all who ask for it. On the wholevery welcoming and not to specialist-y, match-y or carp-y, which is nice because i dont do any of that. No text speak, no heavy modding. Some genuinly well written (not this one obviously) and insightful posts and some cracking one liners. The threads regarding FACT, ACA etc etc have, on the whole, been well argued by both sides and the forum has great platform for reasoned debate.

But it isnt all good unfortunately. Some threads, particuarly about barbel are frankly an embarressment to our sport. They have been cliquey, often patronising, bordering on offensive - and often from the big names mentioned above, and certainly alot published anglers who really shouldknow alot better. Its often looked like an online version of the tackle shop bores (I'm sure every small shop has one - thats why they're small) and any newcomer to the barbel scene must wonder why they should bother and find the nearest carp puddle or take up golf. So wherever we (after this post can I still be in the "we" ???) please could the offending parties (and you know who you are) find a wall to piss up, and work it out that way, or maybe "measure" other things whilst your at it- or at least useinstant messenger. It really doesnt helpnewcomers or anyone else in angling if the great and the good, arguably top 10% in specialist terms(and I really do mean that ) start waving their skid-marked undies in public. So please stop it!

It probably wont be my last post - work is very hot and cold and the moment, and maybe fishingmagic will be saved after all. Maybe we'll move to another site. And maybe, just maybe it might run a bit quicker that this one does /forum/smilies/big_smile_smiley.gif!!

Bob, you old devil you. Beneath that scarred, battle hardened exterior lurks a true romantic!

Just imagine, years into the future an archeologist unearths an old disk pack. She (for men are now redundant and have succumbed to evolutionary imperatives) carefully peels back the layers of information: deeper and deeper until one final echo, a faint magnetic ghost, flickers on to her screen.

Bob Roberts is a ..........

She ponders for a while, wondering why fishing was magic, why 2 weights on the end of a pole caused such controversy, and what Bob Roberts was.

Wouldn't that be a brilliant legacy?

Well said quiver man!

I shall be joining Ron in a virtual tipple of Oban this evening.

One way to get over the sorrow, and what I'm gonna do:

GO FISHING..................

What would I say Bob? It's been a pleasure, that's what I would say. Sure, some areas are a bit cliquey but that just reflects society as a whole. This is (was?) a site for those who did not know it all and were not ashamed to say so. You want help or advice? There was someone here who would willingly supply it.

Look at that Tulip Meat thread. What on earth possessed me to send my wife around Morrisons looking for luncheon meat and then spending time comparing ingredients on the back of the various tins? Someone asked a question - that's why. We were just looking for an answer.

The beginners and improvers would have benefitted hugely. The chap that found he was deep hooking perch, and was upset about it, will now use a plummet properly to ensure he sees his bites quicker. The angler who was spinning his line to hell will now use a slightly slower retrieve. And the quiver tip angler will not now use a 2oz tc quivertip to fish a half ounce feeder for roach.

Humour, anger and pathos. It was all there. As was the very clear passion, and deeply felt at that, for our sport. Combined with the constant reminder that no one knows it all, the site had something for everyone. There are anglers out there who are better anglers because ofFishing Magic. If you are going to have to write an epitaph, that's a bloody good one. Into the mosaic of angling history a very special part could soon be placed.

Graham,The Monk, Ron Clay, Deano's, Cakey, Corky, Woody, Posh Paul, Ray Clarke, Chavender, Bob Roberts, etc. etc. etc. I could go on listing the real characters on FM for ages.

There isn't another site quite as good as FishingMagic. AnglersNet is a good 2nd best that we can fall back on if the worst comes to the worst, although the site is not designed asgood as FM it is a good site with some good anglers. but lets hope it doesn't come to it as FM is the best.

Can add little to what has already been said. I've enjoyed beingable to read and exchange views, news, advice and banter with a fine bunch of genuine human beings on FM. Would like torecord my special thanks to Graham for all his efforts on our behalf. Tight lines all.

Thanks for that, it all looks very professional. Forgive my ignorance but is it only this site that is under threat or are other sites involved?
