Can the river Meden at church warsop be fished?

Any info on what fish are in the river and if it’s a day tickets or club water

The part I’m thinking of is on the A60 going out of Church Warsop just over the bridge there’s a car park on the left just before going up the hill to Worksop

Thanks
Chris

I've not fished there Chris but I know the area well, it's known as Carr Mill Dam and the river runs through the park beside it and the dam is now a nature reserve... I've no idea whether or not you can still fish the dam itself.

There are fish present in that stretch of river but few and far between from what I've seen although I would hazard a guess that fishing is not allowed on the river as it's Mansfield District Council and in a similar situation with Field Mill Dam, fishing is allowed on the dam but not the River Maun which feeds it and holds some decent Roach and Chub in certain places.

I reckon your best bet, if no one can enlighten you further, would be to give the council a ring and check it out with them.

Thanks for that Steve, often wondered about the fishing around Church Warsop when I went to Mansfield on the odd occasion when I didn't have to rush to get to work.
That journey along the A60 from Worksop skirting the Dukeries is a delight!!
Ps- Chrissh, sorry for jumping in first on the info you requested.
Mick.

Thanks Steve now I know it’s called Carr Mill Dam I will do a bit of searching to see if I can find anything out, I will give the council a ring in the week
I have found some photos showing fishing platform, but I thing they was before 2016 when it was made into a nature reserve

Not fished it recently but had a few sessions on there a couple of seasons ago and have no reason to believe anything has changed.

Great mixed fishing in an un-commercialised environment, skip the landing stages and head off up towards the silt trap... there's a bend fairly high but manageable above the water and you can often trot a small waggler for a mixed bag of Perch, Roach, Chub, Dace, in season Tench and the occasional small Common.

I had the biggest Dace i've ever caught there, estimated around 12oz and thought it was a Chub until I slipped the net under it and the Winter Roach have that sublime light metallic blue across their backs.

I do believe the water observes the traditional close season so it will be no go until the Glorious 16th but double check just to be sure, i've never seen another angler on there (other than when Kev and I fished it together) let alone a bailiff so safe to say you'll likely be in for free and very good fishing if you're prepared to wait.

Iirc there's a sign towards the balustrade dam end stating the rules.
