The ratchet button on my Berwick centrepin is quite tight, it was like this when I got it (used) its not overly tight and I cannot see any damage to it.

Are others like this? is there a way of loosening it off a little? I don't want to go messing with it and bu££er it up. I have tried allowing some very thin oil to get behind the ratchet plate, made no difference. Anyone know what the tang on the right hand side of the ratchet mechanism is, I cant see what it does or why its there.

Just looking at my Bewick and the tang on the right has a pin underneath it which checks the movement up and down.
My ratchet on/off button isn't that loose but it's not difficult to engage. Yours may have some dirt or something behind the plate or could the backplate be slightly warped?

I never mess about with decent pins. Get it off to Gary Mills...he'll sort it.

Its not that tight that its unusable I just wondered if all berwicks were the same.

I have drizzled some thin oil on the button and the ratchet plate and it does feel a little better.
