The Sterling Nottingham Reel
Bit of a n odd ball here but what a great looking reel.
Manufactured by Reuben Heaton of Birmingham and retailed by many others.
Often referred to as The Wilkes Osprey reel because appear with their mark than any other makers.
Initially it looked like a dry fly reel but it’s not.
Marketed by Army & Navy London as The Sterling Nottingham Reel.
This catalogue extract from 1935 states;
An all-metal Spinning or Trolling Reel suitable for Pike, Salmon Mahseer and Tiger Fish”
Sizes ranges from 3” to 4-1/2”, this being a 3-1/2” model costing 20 shillings in 1935, that equates to a considerable amount in today’s terms.
There are fairly scarce especially with all the correct parts and line guide intact.
Thsi reel is after stamped with Hardy details, in other words* I dont believe the Hardy marking are correct so its sold as that
no mistake here, but still an iteresting reel for any collector,
