Talksport announced on Sunday that Drennan were to stop funding to the Angling trust /the England fishing team as money Drennan have given for sponsorship cannot (apparently) be accounted for.
The company have sponsored the England team for around twenty five years and given some Seven hundred thousand pounds over that time.
A sad situation.

It is indeed a sad sitution to lose such a valued sponsor as Drennan, however I'd caution about making any (unconfirmed) comments regarding this until the full facts are known . . . .

This is the official response from the Angling Trust:

Over the weekend, an inaccurate story was broadcast on TalkSport relating to the end of our sponsorship agreement with Drennan for the England coarse team. It falsely suggested that there were financial irregularities regarding our handling of sponsorship monies. We have today issued a press release publishing all accounts and demonstrating that these allegations are completely false. We also outline the issues faced by us whilst we tried hard to retain this long time sponsor for our national teams whilst ensuring that undue influence was not brought to bear on managerial or team selection. The loss of sponsorship might be the beginning of the end for the English international teams. I can't comment on the whys or wherefores of the termination of the sponsorship but Drennan's average sponsorship of close on £30,000 per year is a significant contribution to the costs involved over the last 25 years and it's hard to see who else might bring this sort of money to the table. Match fishing is in serious decline in the UK, the NFA aspect of the Angling Trust has diminished over the years - the AT has even failed to maintain proper historic records of all the All-England matches - and I can see a situation where the All-Englands and England's participation in World championships ceases at some point in the not that distant future.
