I amlooking for a book or some sort of publication(perhaps previously given on this site in the past)that will give really good practical help inchoosing the correct type of hook for a given situation along with the way the hook has to be tied(for example;how to tie a hair-rig for a boilie)etc etc.

This is for abeginner(to serious Carp Fishing)who can tie a normal hookknot but is new to specialist fishing that probably needs a more considered approach...

A drawing showing the finished hook andknot doesn't really do it-its more the'take a length and thread it through the eye'approach that would be easier to follow and allow practice before going to a water!!I can show him some basics but he needs something to follow and learn...and be sure the tying does not fail!!

Perhaps this sort of info is unavailable but I would be suprised if this is the case.I am happy to buy the right book if this is the best option but I have never seen one!!

All help appreciated...

Thanks

I think Fox also brought out a DVD last year on knot tying. I think it's on a similar format to Grumpy Gits link.

Grumpy & Baz....thank you for that....I will look for the Fox DVD......

As I said, this is not really for tying conventional knots but for choosing the correct hook in the first place AND tying the knots around fishing boilies etc where the knot is tied to securethe hook BUT also includesinstruction on how to allow sufficient line for the various types/lengths of hair. Its the'physicalness'of the operation thats needed!

For example,....you'vedecided to fish two 12mm boilies on a 2"hair and because of the sizeof fish use(say)10lb line with a size 4 hook....

1 What are the best hooks on the market when this lad goes to buy-eyed,spade etc?

2.He gets home and,no problem to tie the hook BUT cannot work out how totiethe very small loop on the end of the line thats used when pulling on the boilies with the baiting needle!

I seeso many pretty pictures of a beautifully tied hook with two boilies hanging below and the words"this is the sort of set-up you need for those carp"BUT not how the set-up came into being in the first place!!!

Distance stops me sitting down with this lad and trying to explain and its certainly not a telephone call subject hence the desire to find something with picture format.Perhaps I'm looking for something which does not exist!!

With so many expert carp fishermen around, with reams of good knowledge from years of carrying out this function I'd be amazed if it had not been produced in print!!

(Or is it on the secrets list......................!!??)

Hope to hear back....!
