Fox line clips - have you had problems?

I was fishing one of my local waters the other day, a carp rolled over my bait and 2 minutes later screamed off, "oh yes, this is it" I picked up the rod, engaged the baitrunner and struck into the fish. Nothing, no resistance, no fish. Winding back I examined the last 12 inches of line, it was shredded like wire wool. After much searching and experimenting the culprit turned out to be the Fox line clips (the little coloured ball version) that clips to the rod above the swinger, they did not release the line but held it during the run causing it to melt. I have spoken of this to a few other people and like me they have had similar problems. Any one else had this problem?

Yes.
I stretched mine so that they were 'slacker'.
A folded piece of card jammed between the balls for a few days did the business for me.
