I enjoy float fishing for carp sometimes at my local puddle. I have a tfg rod and reel that does the job on little carpbut when I have caught anything over 4-5lbs the rod feels horrible.

Another lake where I fish have carp to 30lb. Had plenty of doubles and a few 20's out whilst sitting behind the buzzers but I want to try and float fish for them.

So....

Is there a float rod + reel anyone can recommend for larger carp?

I was looking for a 2 piece 12ft float rod and a reel that would go with it. Can spend about £120.

Thanks for any help.

I'm no expert Dave but a some of the barbel rods available now would in my opinion be perfect for float fishing for carp. I have an old daiwa powermesh11' 6" 1.25lb tcspecialist rod that I've caught loads of carp to 13lb on using an old pressed steel centrepin....bliss!

All the good rod manufacturers produce reasonably priced barbel rods that would give you good service; I'd go for either 1.75lb or 2lb tc.

I'd go for something secondhand; that way you'll get a decent£200+ combo for your £120......reel wise, play it safe with shimano or if you can get hold of one, a front drag daiwa..

I've got an old Cormoran Specialist Float rod, TC 1 1/2 lb with which I use an old G and Y centrepin loaded with 15 lb line. The whole lot cost less than £80 on E-Bay and I've had carp to 22 lbs on them.

Another good one is the Shakespeare Odessa Special Float Rod.
