The representatives from both the Eel Study Group and the National Anguilla Club will be holding a meeting to discuss the progress it has/is making in regards the protection of the dwindling stocks of the european eel, With developments within the M,A,F,F review from a couple of years ago now beginning to take effect and the introduction of the E,A`s eel managment strategy, which the E,C,S consulted upon along with the recent eel net licencing duties review and byelaws controlling the commercial fishing of eels,
There is also the issue of the spread of the Eel Nematode (Anguillicola crassus) which is a nasty parasit which invades the swimbladder and it is believed may prevent the mature eels from reaching their spawning grounds.
There are also numerous other avenues the E,C,S is considering, to try to ensure the continuing development of the protection of the eel, Some are, with some highly influential bodies,
