Generally we have a close season ON RIVERS from 15th March until 16th June.

This may apply to some still waters and stetches of canals.

For more information take a look at the Environment Agency Website

You will also need a rod license - information on this is on the EA website too.

Hope that helps Gert.

GertR if you're looking for venues to fish around Great Missenden, let me know, there are plenty that don't have a closed season and are available either on club books, day tickets or even free (except for the rod licence). Then there are few "commercials" as well in the area.

Rod licences are valid from 1st April until 31st March so if you plan on fishing before the 1st you may be better off getting a licence just for the day you go fishing. After the 1st, get a yearly licence.

Just to clarify what Matt said about close season on rivers..... the close season is from 15th March to 15th June. NO FISHING on those days. Rivers open again on the 16th.

However, I seem to remember from years ago that Yorkshire rivers and Devon and Cornwall opened earlier than the rest of the country. Something like the 1st June. Not sure if its still the same now though.

Barry i puchased a licence now on the internet starting from the 1st of April.

Seeing that i still need to go and buy some new equipment so it gives me time to look around and buy some decent stuff.

Do any of you know where i would be able to get Greys rods at a good price and would you recomend these rods or is there something else you think is worh a look at.

I'd rather start of slowly and buy decent equipment so price will not be a problem.

Like is said would rather start off fishing one rod and saving for another than to buy cheap stuff and then have to rebuy at a later stage.

My PB is 38 Lbs and i would be mainly fishing for carp and maybe some pike.

Need to get a 40 now.

Gert I PMed back and your last post clarifies my question about the fish you're after.

Now if you need a decent tackle shop to buy what you need in the area (well ok that's about 30 miles away from GM but well worth the visit) and get proper advice then pay J&K tackle in Bicester a visit http://www.jktackle.co.uk/
