Poor service from tackle shop

This is the second time in recent months that I have had to take items of tackle back toPoingdertre's of Southampton a truly well stocked shop owned by John.InJohn's world if any item of tackle should break it's alway's your fault,This time it was chestwaders that my mum got me for Chritmas she had thrown the receit away but I had a copy of her bank statement showing a payment to Poingdestre's for the aprox amount, I also pionted out to him what is a 79 year old woman need a pair of chest waders for? This was not good enough for John, wouldn't even send them back to the manufacture's for them to have a look at.I always judge a company on when things go wrong and Poingdestre's have come up well short.

I would guess you are from the Southampton area. If you are West of Southampton I would recommend my local tackle shop, Ringwood Tackle. Rich and Ash are both very helpful and I would recomment the shop to anybody. The phone number is 01425 475155 if of interest.

Did you tell him to stick the waders where the sun don't shine then /forum/smilies/angry_smiley.gif. You should also tell him that not only he has lost you as a customer but will loose even more customers with the "promotion" you are doing about the way he runs his business on FM /forum/smilies/wink_smiley.gif. May not change a thing and will not replace your chestwaders...but you'll feel much better after that /forum/smilies/big_smile_smiley.gif.

I would join as many fishing web sites as possible and post about the poor service. Also contact Trading Standards and local Newspapers. May be worth contacting local fishing clubs so they can post bulletins etc at their waters. With the state of play in retail you'd think they would bend over backwards to keep custom.

Argos.

It shouldn't be a problem if you can prove that the item was baught from them.

If the shop still won't accept evidence of goods bnaught, then they should put you onto the manufacturer.

You should not need a receipt if you have proof of purchase in the form of a bank statement or credit card receipt. The guy must be a total****** to give such poor and unhelpful service. Although you could pursue this via the small claims court, it may be worth contacting the manufacturer/importer directly. I did this with a similar problem I had with a fairly expensive fishing waistcoat that started to fall apart. the manufacturer sent me a new one FOC and did not ask for the old one to be returned. Needless to say I bought future products from them with confidence. As you so rightly say it's only when things go wrong you find out the true worth of a company.

I bought a set of Reuben Heaton scales from Pongdestre's along with a few other thing which they posted to me, the scales were broken when they arrived so I was straight on the phone to them. They said that if I returned them they would replace them, when I asked about the cost of postage they said that they would include a set of pike spinners to cover the cost. As it happens the postage cost less than £3 and the spinners were valued at around £7, I received both scales and spinners the next day. Sorry to hear that you aren't happy with their service but I can only speak as I find.

Go to the shop or ring them, give them the chance to change them once more.

If they refuse just tell them you will talk to trading standards, you are within your rights to demand a full refund or ex-change the goods.

Trading standards (sorry Ray) aint worth jack to the average punter, let's get this straight. forget them, section 75 etc. you could complain and let poingdestres know about it but I doubt much else will come across.

I go with the poster who said join as many forums and post up about suchrubbish service.

Copy the url and send them in a mail to Poingdestres and be happy that you've shown up their shoddy practices to many.

Barry, you may have had good service but this is not the case here, it's the sh1t service that needs attention.

"it may be worth contacting the manufacturer/importer directly."

That would be my advice too.

While lambasting the shop and its owners on websites might make you feel better, it probably won't replace your waders.

Contact the manufacturers and copy the shop on all correspondence.

Both of the tackle shops in Ringwood are excellent both in terms of service and competitive pricing. If they don't have what you want they will order it for you too.

I have contacted the manufacturer service department who were very helpful and are more than willing for me to take them to another shop to be sorted out, full marks to Leeda.

Poingdestre's are a specialists Shimano stockist, in the past I have had a problem with one of their rods which was sent to the service department at Felindre servicing who replaced the broken tip free of charge but Poingdestre's have charged me £8 postage so they have made £16postage out of me,last time I had a problem with this rod I sent of myself £3 at the post office on a wednesday got it friday so top marks to Shimano they didn't charge postage.

The staff at Poingdestre's are generally helpful it is the owner that pepole seem to have a problem with and he deals with all returns.

DoI have a legal case with a bank statement is this proof of purchase ?

Beneath the rule of men entirely great,
The pen is mightier than the sword.

Sound advice from Edward George Bulwer-Lytton, author of the play Richelieu.

Slightly better advice from me:

The pen is mightier than the sword, unless of course your opponentis actually armed with asword, in which case your are, bug$ered!

I have just taken my chesties to the shop the Leeda said was the nearest local stockist Homestores in Porstwood Southampton , the owner Colin could not be more helpful and said it was a manufactre problem and would sort it out with Leeda for me.

Why couldn't John at Poingdestre's do the same ?
