Went to Extremadura, had 30 barbel and a couple of carp, they fight pretty much like ours over here.

Over 35lbs in the huge dams on the river. I stuck to running water, not sure how big they get there.

Intersting fish,

To me they almost look like a cross between our 'wild' carp and our Barbel.

No Chub, they are an entirely different animal, go with your usual approach and you will be lucky to catch one, got to dash out now so dont have time for more detail sorry.

My half brother took the pics Graham.

Fantastic looking fish........................ is barbel fishing popular out there, do the locals do a bit?

Was it an organised trip or did you go out there on your own steam?

Great thanks Pip/forum/smilies/wink_smiley.gif

Been 8 or 9 times this past few years Black Sheep, why pay a guide a few hundred quid when all the fun is working it out for yourself.

Fly fishing for barbel is popular in some parts but in the main most spaniards lure fish like the Yanks for Black Bass. Carp fishing is growing in popularity though. Miles and miles of unfished river and you can wander where you like in the main as all Spanish rivers are state owned.
