Hello toyou all

can any one please tell me weather it is better to have a membership to a lake or body like cemex. rather than paying per session which i am hopping will work out cheaper over the year.

next can you also recomend any lakes around i live in reigate surrey.

i have been to thorpe lea and had a fantastic time and my pb is now 24lb 6oz. my 8 year old son caught his first carp a nice 20lb 3oz he brought it in all by himself and would not let me help him. must be a natral.

i would put the photos on here but i still cant get them on here even thought i have downloaded picasa.

so if anyone has any other idears i would be greatfull

many thanks and tight lines

Paul, if you are going to fish quite often membership is by far a better deal. With some clubs in my area, as little as 6 to 10 sessions per year would break-even in terms of membership vs. day tickets. Then with Cemex membership gives you access to waters that are not available to day tickets, and this is also true of many clubs that have members only waters on their venue list.

Paul,

Typically, once you have become a 'member' then you do not have to pay per session.

So, simply divide the membership price by the day ticket price and see if you will take more trips than that on the same venue.

Coming from Reigate as you do,then Old Bury Hill Fishery ought to be relatively close to you in Dorking.

Paul, Old Bury Hill fishery is an excellent fishery with quality fish of most species.

If you think the cost of a years day ticketfishing balances well with the cost of joining a club then also consider this; belonging to a large club usually has many other advantages besides cost,ie. you have many varied waters to fish on your ticket, plus you can go as often as you want with no extra cost involved, you usually have more secure private waters without yobbos making a nuisance of themselves, you usually have club events and matches and organised day trips to other waters, one of the clubsthat I belong to(Verulum AC) has all of these and more including an activespecialist group for the Carp, Barbel Tench anglers etc. the club also hasspecialist days where the clubsmore ablespecalists spend a day helping other members to catch Tench or Carp or Barbel etc. with guest fishing celebs and barbeques etc. with record nudging fish of most species (Barbel, Carp, Tench, Crucian, &large Roach to mention just a few)

All this for a measley £63 per season (plus a small joining fee for the first year). easily a much better option and cheaper than fishing day ticket waters throughout the season.

Unfortunately Verulum AC is a little bit far from you but there must be a few similar clubs in your area, however if you arecontent with fishing just one particular water then Old Bury Hillis abrilliant venue.

Paul, theremay even be some additional advantages joining a club. Take Keith's example of Verulam AC. I'm not a VAC member but I'm a member of the neigbhour Tring Anglers (http://www.tringanglers.org.uk/). The Tring Anglers and VAC have a water share agreement meaning that TTA members can fish 4 of the 5 VAC Moor Mill lakes at no extra costs and in exchange VAC members can fish for free the TTA controlled Aylesbury Arm of the GUC. Then TTA being affiliated to MKAA (http://www.mkaa.co.uk/)I get a discount on my MKAA membership which costs me £25 only for next season...a day ticket on MKAA waters is £5...so I only need to fish MKAA waters more than 5 times a year to be better off being a member /forum/smilies/hot_smiley.gif

Hi Paul,

I wouldn't recommend one of cemex lakes, that would cost you, as most are on special permits, and there are waiting list's.

You are better off getting a coverall ticket, goon the cemex website, you will get all the info and prices there. With a coverall permit you get a hell of a lot of water to fish, lakes and rivers.

If not that, then there should be a few local clubs in your neck of the woods with good waters.

goos luck

Buying day tickets is OK if you have no idea how many times you will be able to get out and are keen to save money. However you dont have to buy many day tickets to cover the cost of a fishing permit which offers you access to the clubs range of lakes when ever you want to go.

I can strongly recommend Godalming angling society who have some cracking venues with a very competative pricing structure. They also do regularproffesional teaching at Marsh Farm where you son can improve his fishing skills.
