Calling all Lurkers!

Here on FM we've declared a Lurker's Amnesty. This is your chance to come out of the Lurker's Closet and post a message to the forum for the very first time. Post any message you like to this thread and pop your forum cherry.

If you tick the box below the submission box when you post you'll get an automatic e-mail whenever anyone replies to the thread. If you don't want notifying, leave the box unticked. Neat, or what?

I thought lurkers were those funny old xxxxxxxx that skulked about in the undergrowth to annoy anglers

Graham, my message box comes up with notification enabled every flipping time.
How do I disable it, please.
It's driving me daft with unwanted mails, when I forget to do it.

Clive,go to "personalise" at top right of this page, then to bottom of next page and switch default for response to off.

I think that should do it.

Despite having notification enabled I no longer get notification, which was useful.
Contacted support but still no result so hoping they have not forgotten.

Keith, I have been away for a while, so I haven't been recieving the suport emails. However, I can assure you this problem has now been fixed and you will be able to receive forum update mails again.

OK, I'm breaking my forum cherry! I am an American citizen over here (London) for a couple years. I've had a great time thus far, but it's time I get down to what really matters in life...fishing! I'm headed to Croyde Bay in North Devon for the holiday weekend. While my friends plan on doing some surfing I am MUCH more interested in casting into the surf. I'm no rookie to surf fishing in the States, but I've never hit it here in the UK. Wondering if maybe somebody could give me some advice on bait/lures and what I should expect to catch...or maybe point me in the direction of some websites for some pointers...this one has already been extremely helpful! Also, am I better off finding a pier, or can good luck be had from the surf. Thanks everybody!

Ok, here goes! This be me, popping me cherry!
I'm a complete novice, I got hooked by the carp bug last weekend when I went fishing with me other half, who has been carpin' for years! So you could say that what I know about it, I could write on a postage stamp! I've been on this site every day ever since gleaning as much info as I can.
I manged to land a small common of about 5lb, but what got me hooked was the One that Got Away!! Sod caught me up on a snag and ping! there it went. It was on my first bite and all I can say is that it was like being hit by a truck, I never realised they fought so hard! Me other half, who only had a glimse of the devil, said that it looked like a ghost carp and from the way that it pulled, could well have been double figures!! But I shall never know!! All I do know is that I'll be back there next week, I know now that the bugger's in there and I want him!!

Welcome all forum cherry poppers!

James from the States, post your message again in the sea fishing category. You might get a better response there - good luck, and let us know how you go on.

Nicki, sounds like you're more hooked (on fishing) than your lost carp. Hope you get it next time. Don't forget to tell us about it.

Larry, click on the 'Know Your Fish' guide on the right of this page. Big bream are sometimes known as dogs, maybe it was one those following you.

Hello everyone, only two-and-a-half weeks to the PROPER season! Can't wait to have a go at those early-season tench. To all you specimen-hunters out there, have you considered joining the Specialist Anglers' Alliance - THE specialist organisation to belong to, following in the great traditions of NASG and NASA...? (I edit their magazine by the way..!) PLus I think every angler should support the ACA - YOUR pollution-fighting organsiation.
All the best for the new Season........
