Got a Free spirit 12ft 2 & 1/4tc carp rod. To catch carp up to 30lb which would be best. Shimano fighting drag 4000 or 5000 bait runner. The rod and reel would be used for floating on top for carp or using a polaris float. On the odd occasion also leger.
No other names please, just your view on what you would choose out of these 2.

I would use the 5000 just because i think it would balance the rod better

This is where I dont know what one would go best with the rod Wobbly. It's a 2 & 1/4tc carp rod and I'll be doing both of what you said with it.

The 4000 fighting drag would not balance a 2 1/4 tc rod. You would be better having a more balanced outfit when surface fishing or using the float, leave the 2 1/4 for bottom fishing with 5000 reels.
