I just want to say, ****y, that this little piece was an absolute pleasure to edit (if you can call it editing).
OK, "checking" is a better word for it. And the pictures, especially the two of both of you holding fish were great!
Why, oh why, oh why though, are there no more pictures of the pike trip and why are you hiding Gilly? She should be holding it.

Thanks for the kind words Woody.
To be honest Gilly had never handled a pike before and didn't feel confident enough to try. But I am gutted that I didn't set the self-timer and get a pic of us both with the fish.
Gilly can't have been that upset though, I asked her to marry me in India, and she said yes!!!
Here she is with a more manageable sized fish.

Between cracked rods and running out of film in the camera, you may have had a bone fide 30!! Really looking forward to seeing your India film again, any chance you can do me a copy?

Return tickets in BA sale 400 quid, 300 quid expenses for 3 weeks and permits 15 quid a day approx.
Not a lot of cash when you compare prices with European holidays.
The rewards can be huge; here's my mate Nanju with a proper Kaveri (Cauvery) beast...

So, she has a mental health issue then as well. I mean, who in their right mind would want to marry an angler?
I was speaking with Geoff Maynard today about the Cauvery and he said it wa almost impossible to take a bad photo there. The light just lends itself to the lens.
Oh, and Gilly looks very nice. You have my blessing! :wh

What a fish the magnificent Mahseer is, thats a definate one to try before I die!
I'll drop you a PM shortly to ask about the possibility of popping up for a day Barbelling on the Teme or Severn, and maybe one day I will pluck up the courage to try some Pike or Zander fishing, but I'm too much of a whimp!
In return I promise you a days trotting on the Bristol Avon, as you have to experience the wonders of blanking. It brings one back to reality......

I am very busy with PhD stuff at the mo, but anytime mid-September or November suits me (can't do October... getting married!).
Actually my 'stag do' is a barbelling trip to the Wye in early October if you fancy? Drop me a PM mate.
The barbelling is great here at the mo, Jim got a new pb from the Teme (11lb 12oz) a couple of days back poaching my swim!! See below...

I've been visiting India for nearly fifteen years and sort out my fishing trips independently, but this may not be practical approach if you are planning your first trip (without prior knowledge of the country and its rivers).
If any FM'ers fancy a crack at the mighty mahseer, and haven't visited before, an organised trip may be a more sensible option.
Having never been on a package, I can't really 'recommend' any particular outfit as such, but I know (by the reputation of the guides he uses) that Gary Newman's http://www.indianadventureholidays.com has access to some top quality ghillies and waters in both north and south-central India.
If any of you do fancy winging it and doing a bit of pioneering, drop me a PM and I'll try to help.

Put the mahseer photo in the photo comp, it'll get my vote! Brings back a few memories too. One day I'll have to go back again...

Congratulations mate..................now please stop writing about you adventures and talking of pioneering, im 53yrs old and had lotsof adventures, but you are making my feet itch, not many "overseas" writers do that!
LOL! No, Gilly wasn't drugged!! But that was a contingency plan...:wh
We were actually sat on the roof of my favourite restaurant in the centre of Mysore, enjoying a candle-lit meal and watching huge flocks of parakeets performing aerial ballet before roosting for the night... Nice
As for the adventure/ pioneering paradox, with the continuing goodwill of some good friends in India, I (hopefully and humbly) now have access to many rivers in central India that haven't seen a rod and line in a long time!!
Last time I was out we scoped out a small tributary of the Kaveri and saw some huge murrel that I really fancy a crack at... time for a floating frog lure methinks.

Had a thought: if anyone fancies a trip to fish the Cauvery but needs some local help, Sandeep is your man. He's a really switched-on guy, concerned with the state of Indian rivers and prepared to jaw all night over a bottle of Old Monk about what can be done to save them.
