I am looking into buying a Drennan Avon rod and was looking at the spare quiver tips you can buy.

What is the difference between slow and fast taper quiver tips?

A slow taper bends right through its length and fast taper bends at the tip. The fast taper is the best tip for smaller fish where the bites show much better and are consequently hit much quicker, small roach, dace and perch for example.

You can get carbon tips which are a stiffer tip, faster taper than the glass ones.

Matthew as Graham says the fast tapers are much better for small fish, for fish like bream and most big fish the slow tapers are far superior as they allow the bites to develop without giving a rapid change of resistance to the biting fish, carbon tips in the drennan range are better for drop backs or in the heavier sizes stronger flows.
