I have a fairly new JRC Specialist X-lite Chair which has spring loaded pins that hold the legs in a locked position.
Because these pins are held in position with a screw type nut which can come undone quite easily they have come loose and have been lost.

I am trying to obtain some replacements but cannot find a website for JRC(or tele no)where I can make contact....I am happy to pay for these item BUT I DO NEED THEM!

CAN ANYONE HELP WITH THIS PLEASE-I DON'T HAVE A SPARE CHAIR!!

Thanks

Tee Cee,

I can get JRC number for you in the morning at work, if you want pm me and I will give you my number, you can then ring me at midday and get the number.

I am sure you should be able to get the replacements for free as it is a new chair, or get the chair replaced, i am sure you need the nut's, if not, why are they there in the first place.

I was just about to buy one of these chairs........what i dont want is nuts dropping off in the night!!

Please enlighten me.......do they need to be replaced with lock nuts?.....is this another case of a "take over" changing a product?

The locking springs nut/pins are here...

Nut/pin like things are spring loaded. They lock the legs in place so there is no collapsing...

To unlock the legs and fold legs away pull nut/pin out...

Just want to add Paul, this is a very light chair and very comfortable.

Hope Tee-Cee is a one off case.

Tee-Cee. If its fairly new take it back to the shop. This shouldnt happen.

Mr Diamond....absolutely 100%......the chair is very light and comfortable-no doubt about that.... but these spring-loaded pins, well as an engineer(retired)I have to say the design could be better!
Its NOT the spring-loading that is the problem, its the threaded nut that comes off so easily and this is not helped by the fact that this is the very nut that is pulled in-and-out twice EVERY time the chair is used!

In my humble opinion the nut needs to be a ny-lok type nut(a nut with a nylon insert for the screw thread to bite on)and once screwed onto the pin is very difficult to remove unless you really need to.This would totally stop the unwinding of the nut and the loss problem solved.
Perhaps I am simplifying the problem and JRC must have researched this thoroughly but it IS a problem on an otherwise very good chair and I would buy another because it is so light compared to others!!

My thanks for all the tele nos and to Ray for his offer of help....I will try the numbers tomorrow and see what response I get.I could take it back to the shop BUT its a 30mile round trip so getting the pins by post will be cheaper

Thanks again!

ps I have just been given the JRC service centre as Ensign Fishing 01527 68800...this from Rob Middleton of purefishing.com.......

If you have no joy with JRC Tee-Cee and make your own... let me know please ;)
Nothing wrong at all with my chair yet. Should mine fall out one day I'd like to fix it somehow (if jrc cant help), it's so light and comfy I want to keep it as many years as I can.

It might be worth taking the heads off the pins before they fall off and re-assemble using some threadlock(or PTFE tape) on the threads. Make sure any oil or grease is removed before re-assembly though.

You shouldn't have to be doing this though, slap on the wrist JRC!

Just to finish this thread......

I did make contact with Ensign Fishing and spoke to Richard who turned out to very helpful indeed.
I explained the problem with the pins and although his initial reaction was that the pins were 'fixed' as part of the frame, and as such not replaceable,he did go away to check and to his suprise agreed they were a seperate item!!
He also agreed it was possible for the pins to come off but suggested they should, perhaps,be tightened with a pair of pliers periodically.I don't know if this would solve the problem as anything screwed on that is subject to movement/vibration will eventually come loose.....
(I think I will be lightly tapping the thread end(once tightened)with a pin punch that should stop it moving for all time!!)

Anyway the end result is that Richard located some new pins, sent them off in the post
(£2 each+VAT)and I should have them soon dependent on the post strike.....!!

My thanks to all who offered telephone numbers etc to resolve this issue.......the chair should be operational in the not too distant future..

Perhaps JRC might look at this problem as it spoils an otherwise excellent chair???

Bit naughty charging you when its a new chair.

A few years ago I had a JRC bedchair. They sent me a converter kit to change the legs to big mud feet for free.

New takeover, new rules I guess.

I had this chair (before the locking leg was introduced) and can also confirm its probably is the lightest high back chair on the market. Only reason i sold mine was the angle of the back caused me back ache. Probably more my back than the fault of the chair.

I had reason to contact JRC earlier this year. Unfortunately, they are a very different type of company to the days they were working out of a unit in Palgrave nr Diss, Norfolk. Genuinely couldnt do enough for you then (circa 2004). Happy for you to visit, even showed me some new products (STi Brolly i believe being one of them from memory) at the time & nice reasonable people.

But they have since been bought out at least twice (i think), Shakespeare & now Pure Fishing and i had the misfortune to have to deal with there customer service this year (Pure Fishing). JRC customer services is unrecognisable today in comparison with the past. You cant get to speak with anyone who actually knows about individual products, and if you got a problem then they are not interesting in dealing with the public anymore. A real shame in my eyes as i too was a great fan of JRC. Fortunately they do still make some great relaible products at reasonable prices so this may be their saving grace.

I just want to repeat that I dealt with ENSIGN Fishing(E-mail:enquiries@ensign-fishingtackle.co.uk)and they were very helpful.I dealt with Richard who did his best to sort my problem and I received my new spring-loaded pins in 3 days.

I don't know if they have/had any connection with Pure Fishing but if you need spares for JRC tackle it may be worthwhile contacting Ensign in the first instance.....

If anyone can clarify the situation I would be pleased to hear as I have several JRC items but if they are unreliablethen I wouldn't want to use the product in the future........I did try to make direct contact with them(to obtain FREE replacement Pins!)but found this impossible............most odd for a major supplier..

Out of necessity I ended up paying almost £6 for these pins which,to my mind should've been free......just the world we live in I suppose.....

Tee-Cee,

You should not have had to pay for the pins. You have not had the chair that long.

If I can give some advice to all anglers about tackle it is this.

1st, when buying big tackle item's, ie, chairs, rods, brolly, bivvy etc etc, get a receipt from the shop. if they don't give you one when paying, then ask for one.

2nd, Always take the product back to the shop you bought it from, the shop may not be able to replace it there and then, that is unless the company tells the shop to replace it there and then.

3rd, Any half decent tackle shop should only be to happy to help get the product replaced or repaired, if they are not that bothered to help you after they have had your money, don't go there again, I wouldn't. I would also make it known how bad the shop is. Remember it's us the anglers that keep the shops going.

If I was you Tee-Cee, I would write to pure fishing asking for a full refund for the pins, plus some form of refund. It stinks that you buy a new chair in good faith, only to be treated like Sh*te.

I got mine from kent tackle £55 with a receipt.

100% agree with Ray. Write to Pure fishing. It doesn't matter if its 6 quid, 16 or 60. You shouldn't be paying anything.

I have found out, like many, the hard way of what companies (in my opinion) are good and what ones are bad.
