I am saddened to hear in the last few minutes of the death of the truly great Arthur Cove, in my opinion the greatest reservoir nymph fly fisherman of all time.

Richard Walker rated him as a "Master Angler" who few would ever be able to emulate. His style of fishing and his catches inspired a whole generation of imitative still water fly fishers. His book: "My Way with Trout" was one of the best ever written on English still water trout fishing.

My condolences to his friends and family.

Born in London in 1930, he was 79.

He had a corner shop in Wellingborough.

In later years in addition to fly fishing, he enjoyed micro-lite flying.

What sad news, and what a year this has been in this respect.

RIP Arthur Cove, as truly great angler.

as John said: 'Angling' has lost some really great true anglers in recent times, such a rich generation and probably never to be repeated.

All things pass !
Coves pheasant tail nymph is an absolute stand-bye for me on stillwater trout waters and has caught me many a fish when all seemed lost. Recommend it to all like me who do both.......

Fly fishing wasn't something that formed my angling path, i flirt with it at best, but Arthur was a man who was a giant within his field.

We have many "pretenders" today, but we are losing those who truelly have the right to wear the crowns.
