Calling All Multi Species Specimen Groups

Hello one and all

I’ve just had enjoyable time reading the NASA / NASG thread and it has encouraged me to sign up to FM.

First of all, an introduction. My Name is Tim Walden and I’m a member of the Milton Keynes Specialist Group.

On a recent group trip, we took a break from the fishing to gather round a BBQ. As the evening wore on, conversation turned (possibly with the aid of sloe gin) to discuss the plight of the multi species specimen group. We all agreed that there is potential for these like minded groups to keep in touch. Whilst the ‘political’ work is being carried out by the Angling Trust, we all feel there could a lot of enjoyment in building social ties between groups. In a moment of weakness, myself and fellow MKSG member Adam King have agreed to try and bring this about.

However, before we can begin we need to know about all the specimen groups out there! So, if you know a group, and ideally their contact, please get in touch. Please feel free to post the names of groups in this thread, but for privacy please send any email addresses, phone numbers etc by PM.

I would love to be able to help Tim, and may be their time has come again? Within the CSG alone there are many who target several other species, at one time we had three holders of individual river barbel records. Sadly to a lot of anglers these days 'specimen' fishing means sitting in a bivvy for days on end with 3/4 rods set up. Nothing wrong with that in itself, but that's all some anglers know, or want to know.

Re the continuance of the SG's within the AT and their representation, there is a meeting of the old SAA groups under the now Specialist Angling Freshwater Group, 7th February 2010 at the National Watersports Centre at Holme, Pierrepont, Nottingham in the Angling Trust boardroom.

Looking at the old SAA list, is the The Roach Catchers group still going Ron?

Not Really John, but if a few good young guys are out there and want to get something moving!

I think most know about the DVSG. Myself, Matt Brown and Mortin Womble were down at a meeting of the MKSG recently.

I did manage to catch up with yourself and the other DVSG guys, albeit briefly, at the do. It's always good to see you, and i'm sure there are more groups out there we can get in touch with!

The Soar Valley Specialist Groups going strong. 4 out of our 6 members enjoyed a great Day out at your last MKSG meeting. I know Paul Howkins took our e-mails on the Day so anytime you need to get in touch for any reason, feel free.
